Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the air cleaner. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls.

  2. Object Number: 280256  Size: SH
  3. Drain the engine coolant. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling in Engine Cooling.
  4. Remove the windshield washers and the coolant reservoir from the vehicle. Refer to Coolant Recovery Reservoir Replacement in Engine Cooling.
  5. Use the J 38185 in order to remove the hose clamps.
  6. Remove the heater hose support bolt (5) from the clamp (4).
  7. Remove the clamp from the heater hoses.
  8. Disconnect the inlet (3) and the outlet (2) hoses from the heater core.
  9. Disconnect the inlet (3) and the outlet (2) hoses from the water valve.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 280256  Size: SH
  1. Connect the inlet (3) and the outlet (2) hoses to the water valve.
  2. Connect the inlet (3) and the outlet (2) hoses to the heating core.
  3. Install the clamp to the heater hoses.
  4. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  5. Install the heater hose support bolt (5) to the heater hoses clamp (4).
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the heater hose support bolt (5) to the heater hoses clamp (4) to 4N·m  (35 lb in).

  7. Use the J 38185 in order to install the hose clamps.
  8. Install the windshield washers and the coolant reservoir. Refer to Coolant Recovery Reservoir Replacement in Engine Cooling.
  9. Fill the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling in Engine Cooling.
  10. Leak test the fitting(s) of the repaired or reinstalled component using the J 39400-A .
  11. Install the air cleaner. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls.
