The rear brakes must be adjusted manually after replacing the brake shoes.

  1. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.

  2. Object Number: 221  Size: SH
  3. Remove the knockout plugs (1) in the backing plate.
  4. Tighten the adjusting screw until the wheel can just be turned by hand.
  5. The brake lining drag should be equal at both wheels.

  6. Loosen the adjusting screw 24 notches.
  7. Important: The brake shoes should not drag after backing off the adjusting screw 12 notches. If you get heavy drag, refer to Park Brake Cable Inspection in Park Brake.

  8. Install an adjusting hole cover in the backing plate.
  9. Lower the vehicle.
  10. Check the park brake adjustment. Refer to Park Brake Cable Service/Adjustment in Park Brake.
