Did you review the seat belt operation and perform the necessary inspections?

  1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  2. Observe that the seat belt indicator illuminated during bulb check.

Does the fasten safety belts indicator illuminate during bulb check?

  1. Install a scan tool.
  2. Unfasten the left hand (LH) safety belt.
  3. With a scan tool, observe the fasten seat belts parameter in the instrument panel data list.

Does the scan tool display that the seat belt is unbuckled?

Replace the instrument panel cluster. Refer to Instrument Cluster Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gauges and Console.

  1. Disconnect the seat belt switch.
  2. With the scan tool, observe the fasten seat belts parameter.

Does the seat belt parameter change state?

Replace the seat belt buckle switch.

Refer to Front Seat Belt Buckle Replacement .

Test the signal circuit of the seat belt switch for an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Test the ground circuit of the seat belt switch for an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Replace the body control module (BCM). Refer to Body Control Module Replacement in Body Control Systems.
