J 39400-A Halogen Leak Detector

Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the air cleaner assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls-4.3L.

  2. Object Number: 280396  Size: SH
  3. Recover the refrigerant from the system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  4. Remove the grille. Refer to Grille Replacement in Exterior Trim.
  5. Loosen the compressor hose assembly nut at the condenser.
  6. Remove the compressor hose assembly from the condenser.
  7. Loosen the evaporator tube nut at the condenser.
  8. Remove the evaporator tube from the condenser.
  9. Remove the center support bracket. Refer to Front End Sheet Metal Support Replacement in Body Front End.
  10. Remove the bolts that retain the condenser to the radiator.
  11. Remove the condenser from the radiator.
  12. Remove and discard the O-ring seals.

Installation Procedure

  1. If replacing the condenser, add the PAG oil to the condenser. Refer to System Capacities for capacity information.

  2. Object Number: 280396  Size: SH
  3. Install the condenser to the radiator.
  4. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  5. Install the bolts that retain the condenser to the radiator.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 6 N·m (53 lb in).

  7. Install the center support bracket. Refer to Front End Sheet Metal Support Replacement in Body Front End.
  8. Install new O-ring seals. Refer to O-Ring Replacement .
  9. Install the evaporator tube to the condenser.
  10. Tighten the evaporator tube nut.
  11. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 28 N·m (21 lb ft).

  12. Install new O-ring seals. Refer to O-Ring Replacement .
  13. Install the compressor hose assembly to the condenser.
  14. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 28 N·m (21 lb ft).

  15. Install the grille. Refer to Grille Replacement .
  16. Evacuate and recharge the system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  17. Leak test the fittings of the component using the J 39400-A .
  18. Install the air cleaner assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls-4.3L.
