Whistle Noise from Power Steering

When servicing the vehicle with the VIN you entered, the following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the described symptoms.

Condition/Concern:

A whistle noise in the front of the vehicle, but stops whistling when turning the steering wheel.

Recommendation/Instructions:

Interaction with the fluid flow through the pressure port and the poppet valve at athe power steering (PS) gear box may cause this condition.

To correct this condition, install an adapter to the PS gear box high pressure inlet using the following procedure:

  1. Remove the return line from the PS gear box in order to gain access to the high pressure line.
  2. Remove the high pressure line from the PS gear box.
  3. Install the adapter to the PS gear box high pressure inlet. Tighten: to 27Nm (20 lb. ft.)
  4. Install the high pressure line to the adapter.Tighten: to 27Nm (20 lb. ft.)
  5. Install return line to the PS gear box.
  6. Bleed the PS system. Refer to SI document ID number 487449.
  7. Clean the area with brake clean.

This diagnostic approach was developed for the vehicle with the VIN you entered and should not be automatically be used for other vehicles with similar symptoms.
