General Motors of Canada has determined that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists on certain 1990 L-Vans (All-Wheel Drive Vans). On some of the involved vehicles the frame mounted fuel filter may crack from flexing at the fuel inlet mounting nut and allow fuel leakage. This crack can result in fuel leakage in the area of the exhaust pipe. Heat from the exhaust pipe may ignite the fuel and cause a vehicle fire.
To prevent this condition from occurring, Dealers are to inspect the fuel feed pipe installation and, if necessary, install a new intermediate fuel feed pipe assembly and fuel filter assembly.
There are twenty-nine (29) domestic vehicles involved. Vehicle Identification Numbers of involved vehicles are listed below:

This crack can result in fuel leakage in the area or the exhaust pipe. Heat from the exhaust pipe may ignite the fuel and cause a vehicle fire.
To prevent this condition from occurring, your GM dealer will inspect the fuel feed pipe installation and, if necessary, install a new intermediate fuel feed pipe assembly and fuel filter assembly.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
