INSTRUMENT PANEL LOWER EXTENSION GLOVE BOX RATTTLE

VEHICLES AFFECTED: 1990 M/L VANS

Some of the subject vans may experience a rattle from the instrument panel glove box area. A rattle can occur if the instrument panel lower extension is loose.

To verify, hold the cup holder on the instrument panel lower extension and try to move it fore and aft. If the extension moves, the rattle is likely to be coming from this area.

To correct, it is necessary to install foam adhesive backed strips to the back side of the instrument panel lower extension.

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS: (Refer to Fig. 1).

Remove the instrument panel lower extension.

Install three (3) foam adhesive backed strips (one strip at each end and one in the centre) on the back top side of the extension in the area contacting the lower curl of the metal retainer located on the instrument panel.

The strips should be approximately 2-1/2" long, 1/4" thick and 1/2" wide.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
