  1. Disconnect the theft deterrent relay.
  2. Connect a voltmeter from RED (242) wire to ground.

Does the voltmeter show battery voltage?

Connect an ohmmeter between the theft deterrent BLK (850) wire and the ground.

Does the voltmeter show continuity?

  1. Place transmission in P (Park).
  2. Connect the voltmeter from YEL (1737) wire to ground.
  3. Turn the ignition switch to RUN position.

Does the voltmeter show battery voltage?

Momentarily connect a fused jumper wire from RED (242) wire to PPL (6) wire of the theft deterrent relay.

Does the engine crank?

Locate and repair an open in RED (242) wire from IGN-A maxifuse to the theft deterrent relay.

Does the engine crank?

System OK

Locate and repair an open in BLK (850) wire from the theft deterrent relay to G100.

Replace the theft deterrent relay.

  1. Reconnect the theft deterrent relay.
  2. Connect the voltmeter from PPL (6) wire at the starter solenoid to ground.
  3. Turn the ignition switch to START position.

Does the voltmeter show battery voltage?

Locate and repair an open in PPL (6) wire from the theft deterrent relay to the starter solenoid.

Does the engine crank?

System OK

  1. Connect the voltmeter from PPL (6) wire at the starter solenoid to the starter motor mounting bolts.
  2. Turn the ignition switch to START position.

Does the voltmeter show battery voltage?

Replace the starter solenoid. Refer to Starter Motor Replacement.

Is the replacement complete?

System OK

Clean starter motor mounting bolts, starter motor and mounting surfaces.

Is the repair complete?

  1. Reconnect the theft deterrent relay.
  2. Disconnect the Park/Neutral position and backup lamp switch C2 connector.
  3. Connect the voltmeter from YEL (5) wire to ground.
  4. Turn the ignition switch to START position.

Does the voltmeter show battery voltage?

  1. Connect a fused jumper wire from YEL (5) wire to YEL (1737) wire.
  2. Turn the ignition switch to START position.

Does the engine crank?

Locate and repair an open in YEL (1737) wire from the ignition switch to the Park/Neutral position and backup lamp switch.

  1. Using the voltmeter, backprobe YEL (5) wire at the C211 to ground.
  2. Turn the ignition switch to START position.

Does the voltmeter show battery voltage?

Locate and repair an open in YEL (5) wire from the ignition switch to the Park/Neutral position and backup lamp switch.

Is the repair complete?

System OK

Using the voltmeter, backbprobe RED (242) wire at the C211 to ground.

Does the voltmeter show battery voltage?

Replace the ignition switch.

Locate and repair an open in RED (242) wire between the ignition switch and the underhood fuse relay center.
