Removal Procedure

    Caution: In order to avoid being burned, do not service the engine while it is still hot. Service the engine when it is cool.

  1. Drain the coolant to a level below the thermostat. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling .
  2. Remove the air cleaner assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls.

  3. Object Number: 48323  Size: SH
  4. Disconnect the ground from the coolant outlet.
  5. Remove the bolt/stud and the bolt on the coolant outlet.
  6. Remove the coolant outlet.
  7. Remove the thermostat.
  8. Clean all of the parts and the sealing surfaces.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 48323  Size: SH
  1. Install the thermostat.
  2. Install the coolant outlet.
  3. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  4. Install the bolt and the bolt/stud.
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt and the bolt/stud to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

  6. Install the ground strap to the bolt/stud.
  7. Install the air cleaner assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls.
  8. Refill the coolant. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling .
  9. Start the engine. After the engine reaches normal operating temperature, check for coolant leaks. Refer to Cooling System Leak Testing .
