Notice:
• Do not reverse connections to the generator. • Do not short across or ground any of the terminals in the charging
circuit, unless otherwise directed. • Do not disconnect the output terminal while the generator is running. • Do not overtighten the generator mounting parts. • Do not polarize the generator. • The generator and the battery must have the same ground polarity.
Before performing the diagnosis procedures on the vehicle, ensure that the system wiring is good and the generator belt is not slipping. The battery must be fully charged for a valid test of the charging system.
Trouble in the charging system will show up as one or more of the following conditions:
• | Abnormal indicator lamp operation |
• | An undercharged battery as evidenced by slow cranking or a dark hydrometer |
• | An overcharged battery as evidenced by excessive spewing of electrolyte from the vents |
When the system is operating normally, the indicator lamp will illuminate when the ignition switch is turned on and turned off when the engine starts. If the lamp operates abnormally or an undercharged or overcharged battery condition occurs, use the following procedure in order to diagnose the charging system. Remember that an undercharged battery is often caused by accessories being left on overnight, or by a switch stuck closed that allows a lamp to stay on.
This generator does not have a test hole.
