Front Lower Control Arm Bushing Replacement Rear Wheel Drive (Front)

Removal Procedure

Tools Required

    • J 21474-01 Control Arm Bushing Service Set
    • J 21474-2 Flaring Tool
    • J 21474-5 Receiver Tool
    • J 21474-12 Lower Control Arm Bushing Installer Spacer
    • J 21474-13 Lower Control Arm Front and Rear Bushing Installer
    • J 21474-18 Special Nut
    • J 21474-19 Special Bolt
    • J 21474-20 Lower Control Arm Front Bushing Installer
    • J 21474-23 Lower Control Arm Front Bushing Remover
    • J 22222-5 Lower Control Arm Front Bushing Spacer
  1. Remove the lower control arm. Refer to Lower Control Arm Replacement .
  2. Place the lower control arm in a vise.

  3. Object Number: 1871  Size: SH
  4. Using a blunt chisel, drive the bushing flare down flush with the rubber part of the bushing.
  5. Remove the front bushing.
  6. 4.1. Install the J 21474-5 , the J 21474-18 , the J 21474-19 , the J 21474-23 and the J 22222-5 as shown.
    4.2. Tighten until the front bushing comes free.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 1872  Size: SH
  1. Install the front bushing.
  2. 1.1. Install the J 21474-5 , the J 21474-12 , the J 21474-18 , the J 21474-19 and the J 21474-20 as shown. The lip is on the outside of the control arm.
    1.2. Tighten until the front bushing seats fully into the lower control arm.
  3. Flare the front bushing.
  4. 2.1. Install the J 21474-5 , the J 21474-12 , the J 21474-18 , the J 21474-19 and the J 21474-20 as shown.
    2.2. Tighten until the bushing is flared to approximately 45 degrees.
  5. Remove the lower control arm from the vise.
  6. Install the lower control arm to the vehicle. Refer to Lower Control Arm Replacement .

Front Lower Control Arm Bushing Replacement Rear Wheel Drive (Rear)

Removal Procedure

Tools Required

    • J 21474-01 Control Arm Bushing Service Set
    • J 21474-5 Receiver Tool
    • J 21474-8 Lower Control Arm Front and Rear Bushing Remover
    • J 21474-12 Rear Lower Control Arm Bushing Installer Spacer
    • J 21474-18 Special Nut
    • J 21474-19 Special Bolt
    • J 21474-20 Lower Control Arm Front Bushing Installer
  1. Remove the lower control arm. Refer to Lower Control Arm Replacement .
  2. Place the lower control arm in a vise.

  3. Object Number: 1873  Size: SH
  4. Remove the rear bushing.
  5. 3.1. Install the J 21474-5 , the J 21474-8 , the J 21474-12 , the J 21474-18 and the J 21474-19 as shown.
    3.2. Tighten until the rear bushing comes free.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 1872  Size: SH
  1. Install the rear bushing into the lower control arm.
  2. 1.1. Install the J 21474-5 , the J 21474-18 , the J 21474-19 , and the J 21474-20 as shown. The lip is on the outside of the control arm.
    1.2. Tighten until the rear bushing seats fully into the lower control arm.
  3. Remove the lower control arm from the vise.
  4. Install the lower control arm to the vehicle. Refer to Lower Control Arm Replacement .

Front Lower Control Arm Bushing Replacement Full-Time Four-Wheel Drive

Removal Procedure

Tools Required

    • J 9519-E Ball Joint Remover and Installer Set
    • J 36618 Lower Control Arm Bushing Service Set
  1. Remove the lower control arm. Refer to Lower Control Arm Replacement .
  2. Remove the front bushing.
  3. 2.1. Unbend the crimps using a punch.
    2.2. Remove the bushing using the J 36618-2, the J 9519-23, the J 36618-4, and the J 36618-1.
  4. Remove the rear bushing (no crimp). Remove the bushing using the J 36618-5, the J 36618-3, the J 36618-2, and the J 9519-23.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the front bushing using the J 36618 and the J 9519-23 . After installing the bushing, crimp the bushing into place.
  2. Install the rear bushing using the J 36618 and the J 9519-23 .
  3. Install the lower control arm. Refer to Lower Control Arm Replacement .
