Brake Warning System Diagnosis Brake Indicator Always On

  1. Disconnect the park brake warning switch connector.
  2. Turn the ignition switch to run.
  3. Check that the parking brake is released.

Does the brake indicator turn off?

Ensure that the park brake warning switch is properly adjusted. Refer to Park Brake Cable Service/Adjustment .

Is the adjustment OK?

Replace the park brake warning switch.

Is the replacement complete?

Disconnect the brake pressure warning switch connector (EBCM C4 connector).

Does the brake indicator turn off?

  1. Ensure that the master cylinder is full of fluid.
  2. Replace the park brake warning switch.

Is the replacement complete?

Disconnect the electronic brake control module (EBCM) C1 connector.

Does the brake indicator turn off?

Replace the electronic brake control module (EBCM).

Disconnect the daytime running lamp (DRL) module connector.

Locate and repair short to ground in LT BLU (1134) wire between park brake warning switch and daytime running lamp (DRL) module.

Does the brake indicator work properly?

Connect a self-powered test lamp to LT BLU (1134) wire cavity B to ground.

Disconnect the steering column C201 connector.

  1. Disconnect the park brake warning switch connector.
  2. Turn the ignition switch to run.
  3. Connect a fused jumper from LT BLU (1134) wire park brake warning switch connector to ground.

Does the brake indicator light?

  1. Check for improper adjustment of the park brake warning switch.
  2. If OK, replace the park brake warning switch.

Locate and repair open in LT BLU (1134) wire between daytime running lamp module and park brake warning switch.

  1. Disconnect the electronic brake control module (EBCM) C2 connector.
  2. Turn the ignition switch to run.
  3. Connect a fused jumper from electronic brake control module (EBCM) connector PPL (680) wire cavity H to ground.

Does the brake indicator light?

Locate and repair open in PPL (680) wire between splice S129 and electronic brake control module (EBCM).

Does the brake indicator light?

  1. Disconnect the brake pressure warning switch connector.
  2. Turn the ignition switch to run.
  3. Connect a fused jumper from brake pressure warning switch connector PPL (680) wire cavity A to ground.

Does the brake indicator light?

System OK

  1. Check for an open in BLK (650) wire between brake pressure warning switch and G106.
  2. If OK, refer to Hydraulic Brakes for diagnosis of the brake pressure warning switch.

Does the brake indicator work properly?

Locate and repair open in PPL (680) wire between splice S129 and brake pressure warning switch.

Does the brake indicator light?

  1. Disconnect EBCM C2 connector.
  2. Remove diode II (D100) at the underhood fuse-relay center.
  3. Use an ohmmeter to test the PPL (680) wire for resistance between EBCM connector cavity H and underhood fuse-relay center cavity K1.

Is there continuity?

System OK

  1. Place the ignition switch in run.
  2. Connect a test lamp from the underhood fuse-relay center TAN/WHT (33) wire cavity L2 to ground.

Does the test lamp light?

--

Locate and repair open in PPL (680) wire between underhood fuse-relay center and splice S129.

Does the brake indicator work properly?

  1. Use a self-powered test lamp to backprobe from the steering column C201 connector LT BLU (1134) wire cavity B5 to ground.
  2. Momentarily place the ignition switch in the crank position while monitoring the test lamp.

Does the test lamp light?

Locate and repair open in LT BLU (1134) wire between daytime running lamp module and C201 connector.

Does the brake indicator work properly?

--

Go to Step 23

Replace the ignition switch.

  1. Backprobe ignition switch connector C201 with a fused jumper from LT BLU (1134) wire cavity B5 to ground
  2. Turn the ignition switch to run.

  3. Connect a test lamp from instrument cluster connector PNK (39) wire to ground.

Does the test lamp light?

Locate and repair open in TAN/WHT (33) wire between instrument cluster and daytime running lamp module. If OK, replace the instrument cluster.

Does the brake indicator work properly?
