Removal Procedure

  1. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  2. Remove the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Wheel Removal in Tires and Wheels.
  3. Mark the relationship of the brake drum to the axle.
  4. Remove the brake drum.
  5. Remove the brake shoes. Refer to Brake Shoe Replacement .
  6. Remove the wheel cylinder. Refer to Wheel Cylinder Replacement .
  7. Remove the axle shaft. Refer to Rear Axle Shaft Replacement in Driveline/Axle.

  8. Object Number: 213  Size: SH
  9. Remove the bolts and the washers.
  10. Remove the backing plate.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 213  Size: SH
  1. Install the backing plate.
  2. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  3. Install the bolts and the washers.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 48 N·m (35 lb ft).

  5. Install the axle shaft. Refer to Rear Axle Shaft Replacement in Driveline/Axle.
  6. Install the wheel cylinder. Refer to Wheel Cylinder Replacement .
  7. Install the brake shoes. Refer to Brake Shoe Replacement .
  8. Install the brake drum.
  9. Align the marks made during disassembly.

  10. Install the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Wheel Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  11. Lower the vehicle.
  12. Bleed the brake system. Refer to Hydraulic Brake System Bleeding in Hydraulic Brakes.
