Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 284663  Size: SH
  1. Remove the power steering pump from the vehicle.
  2. Refer to Power Steering Pump Replacement in Power Steering System.

    Important: Note the position of the electrical terminal in order to assist in the replacement of the steering assist control solenoid during installation.

  3. Remove the steering assist control solenoid from the power steering pump.
  4. Remove the retaining clip from the backside of the solenoid.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the retaining clip to the solenoid.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the steering assist control solenoid to the power steering pump.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the steering assist control solenoid to 62 N·m (46 lb ft).

  5. Install the power steering pump to the vehicle.
  6. Refer to Power Steering Pump Replacement in Power Steering System.

  7. Fill the power steering reservoir to the FULL/COLD mark on the dip stick with power steering fluid. Use the proper fluid. Refer to Fluid and Lubricant Recommendations in Maintenance and Lubrication.
  8. Bleed the power steering system.
  9. Refer to Power Steering System Bleeding in Power Steering System.
