Removal Procedure

    Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.

  2. Object Number: 280260  Size: SH
  3. Disable the Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System
  4. Remove the knee bolsters. Refer to Passenger Knee Bolster Replacement and Driver Knee Bolster Replacement .
  5. Remove the right cowl side trim panel. Refer to Trim Panel Replacement - Cowl Side in Interior Trim.
  6. Remove the air distributor duct. Refer to Air Distributor Duct Replacement
  7. Remove the retaining bolts from the inlet assembly.
  8. Remove the vacuum connector.
  9. Remove the assembly from the vehicle.
  10. Remove the nuts that retain the vacuum motor.
  11. Remove the motor from the assembly.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the motor to the assembly.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the nuts that retain the motor to the assembly.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the nuts to 2 N·m (18 lb in).

  5. Install the air inlet assembly to the vehicle.
  6. Install the bolts that retain the air inlet assembly to the vehicle.
  7. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts that retain the air inlet assembly to the vehicle to 4 N·m (35 lb in).

  8. Install the vacuum connector.
  9. Install the air distributor assembly.
  10. Install the right cowl side trim panel. Refer to Trim Panel Replacement - Cowl Side in Interior Trim.
  11. Install the knee bolsters. Refer to Passenger Knee Bolster Replacement and Driver Knee Bolster Replacement .
  12. Enable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System

  14. Connect the negative battery cable.
