Removal Procedure

  1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System in SIR.

  2. Object Number: 317065  Size: SH
  3. Remove the instrument panel from the vehicle. Refer to Instrument Panel Assembly Replacement .
  4. Remove the inflatable restraint IP module. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Instrument Panel Module Replacement in SIR.
  5. Remove the radio, if equipped. Refer to Radio Replacement in Entertainment.
  6. Remove the instrument panel storage compartment, if equipped. Refer to Instrument Panel Storage Compartment Replacement .
  7. Remove the bolts that retain the RKE module to the carrier.
  8. Remove the RKE module from the carrier.
  9. Remove the temperature control assembly. Refer to the appropriate procedure:
  10. •  Control Assembly Replacement in Heater and Ventilation (No A/C)
    •  Control Assembly Replacement in Heater and Ventilation (with A/C Manual)

  11. Remove the nuts that retain the assist handle from the passenger's side of the instrument panel.
  12. Remove the screws that retain the cluster to the instrument panel carrier.

  14. Pull the cluster from the instrument panel.

  16. Remove the instrument panel trim pad. Refer to Instrument Cluster Trim Panel Replacement .
  17. Remove the nuts and bolts that retain the instrument panel steering column reinforcement bracket to the instrument panel carrier.

Installation Procedure

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  1. Install the nuts and bolts that retain the instrument panel steering column reinforcement bracket to the instrument panel carrier.
  2. Tighten
    Tighten the nuts and bolts to the steering column reinforcement bracket to the instrument panel carrier to 27 N·m (20 lb ft).

  3. Install the instrument panel trim pad. Refer to Instrument Cluster Trim Panel Replacement .

  4. Object Number: 317090  Size: SH
  5. Install the instrument cluster to the instrument panel carrier with four retaining screws.

  6. Object Number: 317060  Size: SH
  7. Install the nuts that retain the assist handle to the passenger's side of the instrument panel.
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the nuts that retain the assist handle to the passenger's side of the instrument panel to 27N·m  (20 lb ft).

  9. Install the temperature control head.
  10. Install the two bolts that retain the RKE module to the carrier.
  11. Tighten
    Tighten the two bolts that retain the RKE module to the carrier to 2N·m  (18 lb in).

  12. Install the radio, if equipped.
  13. Install the instrument panel storage compartment.
  14. Install the inflatable restraint IP module.

  16. Install the instrument panel to the vehicle. Refer to Instrument Panel Assembly Replacement .
  17. Enable the SIR. Refer to Enabling the SIR System in SIR.
