J 38185 Hose Clamp Pliers

Removal Procedure

  1. Drain the engine coolant. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling in Engine Cooling.
  2. Using the J 38185 , reposition the outlet heater hose clamp at the heater core.
  3. Remove the outlet heater hose from the heater core.
  4. Using the J 38185 , reposition the inlet heater hose clamp at the heater core.
  5. Remove the inlet heater hose from the heater core.
  6. Remove the screws (9) that retain the cover to the heater case assembly.
  7. Remove the straps (8) that retain the heater core to the heater case assembly.

  9. Remove the heater core (7) from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the heater core to the vehicle.
  2. Install the straps that retain the heater core to the heater case assembly.
  3. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  4. Install the screws that retain the heater core to the heater case assembly.
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the screws to 2 N·m (18 lb in).

  6. Install the inlet heater hose to the heater core.
  7. Using the J 38185 , reposition the inlet heater hose clamp at the heater core.
  8. Install the outlet heater hose to the heater core.
  9. Using the J 38185 , reposition the outlet heater hose clamp at the heater core.
  10. Refill the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling in Engine Cooling.
