Stabilizer Shaft Replacement AWD

Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 689024  Size: SH
  1. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  2. Remove the tire and wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  3. Remove the idler arm mounting bolts.
  4. Disconnect the idler arms from the frame.
  5. Move the steering linkage to gain access to the stabilizer shaft bracket mounting bolts.

  6. Remove the stabilizer shaft links. Refer to Stabilizer Shaft Link Replacement .

  7. Object Number: 178930  Size: SH
  8. Remove the stabilizer shaft bracket mounting bolt and the nut (left hand).

  9. Object Number: 178931  Size: SH
  10. Remove the stabilizer shaft bracket mounting bolts (right hand).
  11. Remove the stabilizer shaft brackets.
  12. Remove the stabilizer shaft insulators from the stabilizer shaft.
  13. Remove the stabilizer shaft.
  14. Inspect all of the parts for wear and damage.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the stabilizer shaft to the frame.
  2. Install the stabilizer shaft insulators to the stabilizer shaft. Ensure that the slit in the insulator faces forward.
  3. Install the stabilizer shaft brackets to the stabilizer shaft insulators.

  4. Object Number: 178931  Size: SH
  5. Install the stabilizer shaft bracket mounting bolts (right hand).

  6. Object Number: 178930  Size: SH

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  7. Install the stabilizer shaft bracket mounting bolt and nut (left hand).
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the stabilizer shaft bracket mounting bolts and the nut to 55 N·m (41 lb ft).

  9. Install the stabilizer shaft links. Refer to Stabilizer Shaft Link Replacement .

  10. Object Number: 689024  Size: SH
  11. Install the idler arms to the frame.
  12. Install the idler arm mounting bolts.
  13. Tighten
    Tighten the idler arm mounting bolts to 105 N·m (77 lb ft).

  14. Install the tire and wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  15. Lower the vehicle.

Stabilizer Shaft Replacement RWD

Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 178931  Size: SH
  1. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  2. Remove the tire and wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  3. Remove the stabilizer shaft links. Refer to Stabilizer Shaft Link Replacement .
  4. Remove the stabilizer shaft bracket mounting bolts.
  5. Remove the stabilizer shaft brackets.
  6. Remove the stabilizer shaft.
  7. Remove the stabilizer shaft insulators from the stabilizer shaft.
  8. Inspect all of the parts for wear and damage.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the stabilizer shaft insulators on the stabilizer shaft. Position the slit on the insulator toward the front of the vehicle.
  2. Install the stabilizer shaft.
  3. Install the stabilizer shaft brackets over the stabilizer shaft insulators.
  4. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  5. Install the stabilizer shaft bracket mounting bolts.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the stabilizer shaft bracket mounting bolts to 36 N·m (27 lb ft).

  7. Install the stabilizer shaft links. Refer to Stabilizer Shaft Link Replacement .
  8. Install the tire and wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  9. Lower the vehicle.
