Stabilizer Shaft Insulator Replacement RWD

Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 178931  Size: SH
  1. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  2. Remove the stabilizer shaft insulator bracket bolts.
  3. Remove the stabilizer shaft insulator bracket.
  4. Using a pry bar, lower the stabilizer shaft.
  5. Remove the stabilizer shaft insulator.

Installation Procedure

  1. Using a pry bar, lower the stabilizer shaft.
  2. Install the stabilizer shaft insulator to the stabilizer shaft. Position the slit on the stabilizer shaft insulator toward the front of the vehicle.
  3. Install the stabilizer shaft bracket over the stabilizer shaft insulator.
  4. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  5. Install the stabilizer shaft bracket retaining bolts.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the stabilizer shaft bracket retaining bolts to 36 N·m (27 lb ft).

  7. Lower the vehicle.

Stabilizer Shaft Insulator Replacement AWD

Removal Procedure

  1. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.

  2. Object Number: 689024  Size: SH
  3. Remove the idler arm to frame mounting bolts.

  4. Object Number: 178930  Size: SH
  5. Disconnect the idler arms from the frame.
  6. Move the steering linkage to gain access to the stabilizer shaft bracket retaining bolts.

  7. Remove the stabilizer shaft bracket mounting bolt and the nut (left hand).

  8. Object Number: 178931  Size: SH
  9. Remove the stabilizer shaft bracket mounting bolts (right hand).
  10. Remove the stabilizer shaft brackets.
  11. Using a pry bar, lower the stabilizer shaft.
  12. Remove the stabilizer shaft insulators from the stabilizer shaft.

Installation Procedure

  1. Using a pry bar, lower the stabilizer shaft.
  2. Install the stabilizer shaft insulators to the stabilizer shaft. Make sure the slit in the stabilizer shaft insulator faces forward.
  3. Install the stabilizer shaft brackets to the stabilizer shaft insulators.
  4. Install the stabilizer shaft bracket mounting bolts (right hand).

  5. Object Number: 178930  Size: SH

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application.   6. Install the stabilizer shaft bracket mounting bolt and nut (left hand).
  7. Tighten
    Tighten the stabilizer shaft bracket mounting bolts and the nut to 55 N·m (41 lb ft).

  8. Install the idler arms to the frame.

  9. Object Number: 689024  Size: SH
  10. Install the idler arm mounting bolts.
  11. Tighten
    Tighten the idler arm mounting bolts to 105 N·m (77 lb ft).

  12. Lower the vehicle.
