DEFINITION: The windshield wiper motor operates when the windshield wiper switch is OFF.

Did you review the Wiper/Washer System Description and Operation and perform the necessary inspections?

Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.

Are the windshield wipers always on?

Go to Step 3

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the inline harness connector C201.
  3. Remove the connector terminal row E from the steering column harness connector half.
  4. Connect the inline harness connector C201.
  5. Turn ON the ignition.

Are the windshield wipers always on?

Go to Step 4

Test the windshield wiper switch pulse delay signal circuit for a short to voltage. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Test the windshield wiper motor high speed circuit and low speed circuit for a short to voltage. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the windshield wiper/washer switch. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and to Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the at harness connector of the windshield wiper motor module. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Replace the windshield wiper/washer switch. Refer to Turn Signal Multifunction Switch Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column.

Replace the windshield wiper motor module. Refer to Windshield Wiper System Module Replacement .

Operate the system in order to verify the repair.
