Noise from Lower Door or Running Board at Road Speeds - access adhesive loose pad runningboard

When servicing the vehicle with the VIN you entered, the following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the described symptoms.

Condition/Concern:

Running board cover/step pad is not fastened to the webbed framework.

Recommendation/Instructions:

  1. If the cover/pad is not damaged, replace any of the 10 inboard clip type fasteners that are damaged or missing with P/N 12490926 (package of 10). Additionally drill and insert two black body screws (size 4.2x20mm PH RD HD automotive body screw) at the leading and trailing outboard cover/pad corners. These fasteners will secure the cover/pad to the webbed framework and should not be visible to the customer.
  2. Please note: An illustration/picture of the two additional screw hole locations is available by calling Technical Assistance and can be E-mailed to your dealer.

  3. For 2003-2004 models, if the cover/pad is damaged, replace the cover/pad with 88979864 Cover LH or 88979865 Cover RH and refer to the instructions in step 1 to additionally secure the cover/pad.
  4. Please note: The running board cover/pad P/Ns currently apply to only 2003-2004 models due to material color change.

Please follow this diagnosis process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed. If these steps do not resolve the condition, please contact GM TAC for further diagnostic assistance. This diagnostic approach was developed for the vehicle with the VIN you entered and should not be automatically be used for other vehicles with similar symptoms.
