Service VME - Fixed Mast Radio Antenna Does Not Fit Base - keywords reception stud

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

This dealer VME pertains to 2006 model year full size pickups and utilities and is a product information update relative to a new radio antenna mast and base combination. A running production change was made in early October, 2005 that increased the size of the radio antenna base from 6mm to 7mm for improved stability and reception performance. In addition, the antenna mast now has a self locking thread feature which may result in some interference if antenna is being finger tightened. In some cases this interference is being perceived as a concern and may result in replacement antennas being ordered unnecessarily.

When installing the radio mast antenna, please use a crescent or similar type wrench to properly secure to mast to the antenna base.

Please note that the prior antenna mast part number 15087886 will not fit vehicles built on and after October, 2005.

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
