The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.
4WD inoperative and possible DTC C0327 stored in the transfer case control module. Inspection of the transfer case fluid will show signs of clutch debris. Inspection of the transfer case may not reveal any obvious signs of root cause for the clutch pack failure. Inspect the lubrication hole on the transfer case main shaft. The cross-drilled lube holes are drilled prior to the broaching operation on the shaft. It is possible that as the splines are broached, metal can be folded over into the lubrication hole for the clutch pack. The result will be a clutch pack failure due to lack of lubrication. See illustrations below of examples that show acceptable and unacceptable lube holes.
If the lube holes are obstructed, replace the transfer case mainshaft.
Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
