The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.
Condition/Concern:
Possible customer concerns are SES light on, harsh shifts, delayed 2-3 shift, no third gear or slip in third or reverse, or a 2-3 shift flare. Fluid inspection may or may not indicate distressed clutches.
Recommendation/Instructions:
For 2002 vehicles only, built between 2/1/2002 and 4/10/2002, please review TSB 03-07-30-005 for possible third accumulator housing mis-machining. On all 2002-2006 vehicles, check for any debris caught in the #11 check ball. If debris is found, repair or replace the valve body as necessary and inspect the direct clutch for distress as this would cause a leak in the oil circuit. Also check the 2-3 shift valve for debris or leakage. If none of these items seem to have a concern, replace the 2-3 shift solenoid due to a possible sticking pintle.
Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
