Condition

Some customers may comment on a metallic knocking noise coming from the front of the vehicle when accelerating or braking.

Cause

This condition may be caused by ball joint-to-control arm nuts that are not tightened to the current specification.

Correction

  1. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle (SI Document ID 1313298) in the General Information section of the appropriate Service Manual.
  2. Important: Refer to Fastener Tightening Specifications (SI Document ID 1283754) in the Front Suspension section of SI for the most accurate front suspension fastener tightening specifications.

  3. Tighten the ball joint-to-control arm nuts.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the ball joint-to-control arm nuts to 150 N·m (111 lb ft).

  5. Lower the vehicle.
  6. Verify that the customer concern has been resolved.
