The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.
On rare occasions, the ECM may lock up during ECM programming and lose communication. Typically, this is a result of low battery voltage or having a battery charger connected to the vehicle as the ECM is being programmed.
If this concern is experienced, perform the following suggestions:
• | disconnect both battery cables for about 15 minutes |
• | hold both cables together for a few seconds |
• | reconnect both battery cables |
• | determine if ECM communication has been restored |
• | try to reprogram the ECM again, making sure that the battery is fully charged, all accessories are off, and the latest Tech 2 software is in the Tech 2. |
If ECM communication can not be restored by following the suggestions above, replace the ECM and perform a CKP variation learn.
Notice: It is not necessary to program the new ECM since they come preprogrammed from GMSPO. Depending on how long the ECM has been in GMSPO stock, it may not have the latest ECM calibrations. If the latest calibrations are necessary to correct the customer's concern, use a Tech 2 to determine if the ECM is equipped with the latest ECM calibrations. If the latest calibrations are not present and they are needed to correct the customer's concern, reprogram the new ECM using the latest TIS2Web calibrations by following the precautions outlined above.
Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
