Removal Procedure
Caution: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in the Preface section.
Caution: Wear safety glasses in order to avoid eye damage.
- Disconnect the negative battery cable.
- Remove the timing belt and timing belt tensioner. Refer to
Timing Belt Replacement
.
- Remove the camshaft gear with the camshaft gear bolt.
- Remove the timing belt rear cover bolts.
- Remove the timing belt rear cover.
- Remove the oil pan. Refer to
Oil Pan Replacement
.
- Remove the oil pump strainer bolts.
- Remove the oil pump strainer with oil seal.
- Remove the crankshaft gear from the crankshaft.
- Remove the oil pump bolts.
- Remove the A/C compressor/power steering pump bracket bolt.
- Remove the A/C compressor/power steering pump bracket.
- Remove the oil pump.
- Clean the oil pump and engine block gasket mating surfaces.
- Remove the oil seal from the oil pump.
- Inspect the oil seal for damage.
Installation Procedure
Caution: Wear safety glasses in order to avoid eye damage.
- Install a new oil pump gasket to the oil pump.
Important: If the crankshaft seal is damaged, replace it with a new oil seal.
- Face the oil seal groove (1) toward the oil pump case surface (2) as shown.
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.
- Install the oil pump to the engine block with the bolts.
Tighten
Tighten the oil pump bolts to 10.5 N·m (93 lb in).
- Install the oil pump strainer.
- Install the oil pump strainer bolts.
Tighten
Tighten the oil pump bolts to 10.5 N·m (93 lb in).
- Install the oil pan. Refer to

.
- Install the rear timing belt cover.
- Install the rear timing belt cover bolts.
Tighten
Tighten the rear timing belt cover bolts to 10.5 N·m (93 lb in).
- Install the timing belt. Refer to
Timing Belt Replacement
.
- Install the camshaft gear and bolt.
Tighten
Tighten the camshaft gear bolt to 55 N·m (41 lb ft).
- Install the air filter housing.
