Service Update - Surge Tank Hose Protector Damage

THIS SERVICE UPDATE INCLUDES VEHICLES IN DEALER/RETAILER INVENTORY AND CUSTOMER VEHICLES THAT RETURN TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR ANY REASON. IT WILL EXPIRE AT THE END OF THE INVOLVED VEHICLE'S NEW VEHICLE LIMITED WARRANTY PERIOD.

This bulletin provides a service procedure to replace the surge tank hose protector on certain 2008 and 2009 model year Chevrolet Aveo vehicles equipped with 1.4L DOHC engines. Under certain conditions, the foam surge tank hose protector may become damaged by interference with the air conditioner pipe.

This service procedure should be completed as soon as possible on involved vehicles currently in dealer/retailer inventory and customer vehicles that return to the dealer/retailer for any type of service during the New Vehicle Limited Warranty coverage period.

A list of involved vehicles currently in dealer/retailer inventory is contained in this bulletin. Customer vehicles that return for service, for any reason, and are still covered under the vehicle's base warranty, and are within the VIN breakpoints provided below, should be checked for vehicle eligibility in the appropriate system.

Important: Dealers/retailers are to confirm vehicle eligibility prior to beginning repairs by using the system below. Not all vehicles within the above breakpoints may be involved.

Involved vehicles have been identified by Vehicle Identification Number. Computer listings containing the complete Vehicle Identification Number, customer name and address data have been prepared, and are being furnished to involved dealers with the campaign bulletin. The customer name and address data furnished will enable dealers to follow-up with customers involved in this campaign. Any dealer not receiving a computer listing with the campaign bulletin has no involved vehicles currently assigned.

These dealer listings may contain customer names and addresses obtained from State Motor Vehicle Registration Records. The use of such motor vehicle registration data for any other purpose is a violation of law in several states. Accordingly, you are urged to limit the use of this listing to the follow-up necessary to complete this campaign.

Parts required to complete this recall are to be obtained from General Motors Service and Parts Operations (GMSPO).

1. Open the engine hood.



2. Remove the sponge protector from the coolant hose.

Location of affected coolant hose: behind center side of radiator




3. Install corrugate tube (P/N 96983876) as shown in photo.

Note: The end of the corrugate tube should be inserted into the bracket.




4. Secure both ends of the corrugate tube with two straps (P/N 96224564).



5. Install the locking clip (P/N 94530832) between the surge tank hose and the A/C pipe.
6. Close the engine hood.
