Power Steering Pump Replacement 1.2L LMU Engine
Removal Procedure
- Use paint in order to place match marks on the pump and on the rear shackle.
- Drain the power steering fluid by disconnecting the pressure and supply lines from the pump.
- Remove the rear shackle bolt.
- Remove the pump retaining bolt.
- Disconnect the pressure switch connector.
- Remove the front shackle bolt.
- Remove the pump assembly.
Installation Procedure
- Position the pump assembly in the vehicle.
Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.
- Loosely install the rear shackle bolt.
- Loosely install the pump retaining bolt.
- Position the belt on the pump pulley.
- Align the match marks and adjust the tension on the belt.
- Tighten the rear shackle bolt.
Tighten
Tighten the rear shackle bolt to 22 N·m (16 lb ft).
- Tighten the pump retaining bolt.
Tighten
Tighten the pump retaining bolt to 22 N·m (16 lb ft).
- Install the front shackle bolt.
Tighten
Tighten the front shackle bolt to 20 N·m (15 lb ft).
- Connect the pressure and supply lines to the pump.
Tighten
Tighten the pressure line union nut to 28 N·m (21 lb ft).
- Connect the pressure switch connector.
Caution: Refer to Using Proper Power Steering Fluid Caution in the Preface section.
- Refill the pump with new fluid and bleed the air from the system. Refer to
Power Steering System Bleeding.
- Inspect for leaks. If leaks are found, correct the cause of the leaks and bleed the system.
Power Steering Pump Replacement 1.4L L95 and 1.5L LV8 Engines
Removal Procedure
- Remove the air cleaner housing by removing the housing bolts and loosening the clamp.
- Remove the pump drive belt from the pulley by moving the autotensioner.
- Drain the power steering fluid by disconnecting the pressure and supply lines from the pump.
- Remove the pump assembly by removing the steering pump retaining nuts.
Installation Procedure
Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.
- Install the pump to the A/C compressor bracket and tighten the steering pump retaining nuts.
Tighten
Tighten the steering pump retaining nuts to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).
- Connect the pressure and supply lines to the power steering pump.
Tighten
Tighten the pressure line union nut to 28 N·m (21 lb ft).
- Install the pump drive belt onto the pulley by moving the autotensioner.
- Install the air cleaner housing with the housing bolts and the clamp.
Tighten
Tighten the air cleaner housing bolts to 12 N·m (106 lb in).
Caution: Refer to Using Proper Power Steering Fluid Caution in the Preface section.
- Refill the pump with new fluid and bleed the air from the system. Refer to
Power Steering System Bleeding.
- Inspect for leaks. If leaks are found, correct the cause of the leak and bleed the system.
Power Steering Pump Replacement 1.4L LDT and 1.6L LXV Engines
Removal Procedure
- Remove the power steering pump drive belt. Refer to
Drive Belt Replacement for the 1.4L (LDT) engine or to
Drive Belt Replacement for the 1.6L (LXV) engine.
- Disconnect the pressure pipe (1) from the pump.
- Disconnect the supply hose (2) from the pump.
- Drain the power steering fluid.
- Remove the bolts (1, 2) and the pump from the vehicle.
Installation Procedure
Caution: Refer to Steering Column in Lock Position Caution in the Preface section.
- Install the pump and the bolts (1, 2). Tighten the bolts to
26 N·m (19 lb ft).
- Install the supply hose (2) to the pump.
- Install the pressure pipe (1) to the pump. Tighten the union nut to
28 N·m (21 lb ft).
- Install the power steering pump drive belt. Refer to
Drive Belt Replacement for the 1.4L (LDT) engine or to
Drive Belt Replacement for the 1.6L (LXV) engine.
- Fill the power steering fluid reservoir and bleed the power steering system. Refer to
Power Steering System Bleeding.
