Removal Procedure
  1. Siphon the power steering fluid from the reservoir.

    2. Object Number: 2046974 Size: SH
  2. Disconnect the pressure line pipe (1) from the outlet connection on the power steering pump.
  3. Remove the air cleaner housing, if necessary. Refer to the applicable procedure:
    4. •  Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement for the 1.2L (LMU) engine
    •  Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement for the 1.4L (LDT) engine
    •  Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement for the 1.6L (LXT) engine
    •  Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement for the 1.6L (LXV) engine

  4. Remove the pressure pipe retaining clamp bolt (1) near the engine cylinder head.

    5. Object Number: 2046987 Size: SH
  5. Remove the return pipe retaining clamp nuts (1, 2) near the left side body panel.

    6. Object Number: 1248343 Size: SH
  6. Disconnect the pressure and return inlet pipe from the steering gear.

    7. Object Number: 1251825 Size: SH
  7. Disconnect the return line hose from the reservoir.
  8. Remove the power steering pump pressure line and the return line from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure
  1. Position the power steering pump pressure line and the return line in the vehicle.

    2. Object Number: 1251825 Size: SH
  2. Connect the return line hose to the reservoir.

    3. Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.


    Object Number: 1248343 Size: SH
  3. Connect the pressure and return line inlet pipe to the steering gear. Tighten the steering gear inlet pipe fitting to 28 N·m (21 lb ft).

    4. Object Number: 2046975 Size: SH
  4. Install the pressure pipe retaining clamp bolt (1). Tighten the bolt to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

    5. Object Number: 2046987 Size: SH
  5. Install the return pipe retaining clamp nuts (1, 2). Tighten the clamps to 8 N·m (70 lb in).

    6. Object Number: 2046974 Size: SH
  6. Connect the pressure line pipe (1) to the outlet connection on the power steering pump. Tighten the union nut to 28 N·m (21 lb ft).
  7. If you removed the air cleaner housing, install the air cleaner housing. Refer to the applicable procedure:
    8. •  Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement for the 1.2L (LMU) engine
    •  Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement for the 1.4L (LDT) engine
    •  Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement for the 1.6L (LXT) engine
    •  Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement for the 1.6L (LXV) engine
  8. Fill the power steering fluid reservoir and bleed the power steering system. Refer to Power Steering System Bleeding.
