WIPER ARM INOPERATIVE LOW NUT TORQUE AT WIPER ARM

Model and Year: 1988 BERETTA, CORSICA

Comments may be received about 1988 Beretta, Corsica wiper arm stripage and wipers not wiping the windshield properly.

This can be caused by low nut torque at the wiper arm to linkage joint.

If this condition exists, remove and replace the wiper arms as indicated on the Illustration.

A. REMOVAL

1. Turn ignition On, place wiper system in park position, and then turn ignition Off.

2. Disconnect washer hose from plastic connector (Figure 1).

3. Remove protective cap (Figure 1).

4. Lift wiper arm and insert a suitable pin or pop rivet completely through the two holes located next to pivot of arm (Figure 2).

5. Remove nut (Figure 1).

6. Lift arm off its drive shaft using an up and down rocking motion (Figure 3).

7. Clean knurls of drive shaft with a suitable wire brush. (Figure 3).

B. INSTALLATION

1. Install new wiper arm (PN 10070688, R.H.10070689 L.H.) 1 inch (25mm) below park ramp (Figure 4).

2. Remove pivot prevention pin from wiper arm.

3. Install new nut (PN 20604449) with torque wrench (Figure 5). Torque MUST BE 20-24 N-m.

4. Run wiper system and check for correct wipe pattern. L.H. blade tip should wipe to a limit of 1-1.5 inches (25-38mm) from outside edge of glass. R.H. blade should overlap into L.H. wipe pattern as shown on Figure 6.

5. Connect washer hose (Figure 1).

6. Install protective cap. (Figure 1).
