REAR BUMPER FASCIA SERVICE PROCEDURE DESCRIBED

REAR FASCIA GAP/SAG/WARP

VEHICLES AFFECTED: 1988 "L" CAR (SEDAN ONLY) -----------------

Comments have been received that the rear fascia sags or is warped at the license plate area. This condition is shown in Figure 1. It can be repaired as outlined below:

Service Procedure:

1. Remove fascia and free up any entrapped stones, mud, etc.

2. Fabricate two brackets out of 1.59 mm or 1/16" thick galvanized sheet steel. See Figure 2 (dimensions to be 7.6 cm x 3.2 cm x 15.9 mm or 3" x 1 1/4" x 5/8").

3. Clean bracket and underside of fascia with 3M Cleaner 8984 or equivalent.

4. Apply a thin film of 3M Polyolefin Adhesive Promoter to underside of fascia (3M part number 050907).

5. Apply two part epoxy (3M part number 5900) to the brackets. Install brackets to underside of fascia at locations shown in Figure 3. Let epoxy set up for 30 minutes.

NOTICE: IF CLAMPS ARE USED TO KEEP BRACKETS IN PLACE. USE TONGUE DEPRESSOR OR SIMILAR BLOCK SO AS NOT TO LEAVE WITNESS MARKS ON FASCIA.

6. Reinstall rear fascia on vehicle.

Use the most applicable labour operation at 1.2 hours.
