UPDATE SEC. 8E WINDSHIELD WIPER-WASHER SYSTEM

VEHICLES AFFECTED: 1987-89 CORSICA/BERETTA

Information contained in this bulletin is an addendum to the 1987, 88 and 89 Corsica/Beretta Service Manual, Section 8E-1, Windshield Wiper-Washer System.

When servicing windshield wiper arms, blades or blade inserts the following new Service Procedures (artwork also attached) should be used as reference.

WIPER ARM REPLACEMENT

Remove or Disconnect

1. Turn ignition ON, place wiper system in park position, and then turn ignition OFF.

2. Washer hose from plastic connector (Figure 1).

3. Protective cap (Figure 1).

4. Lift wiper arm and insert a suitable pin or pop rivet competely through the two holes located next to pivot of arm (Figure 2).

5. Nut (Figure 1).

6. Lift arm off its drive shaft using an up and down rocking motion (Figure 3).

Full Clean

1. Knurls of drive shaft with a suitable wire brush (Figure 3).

Install or Connect

1. Wiper arm 25 mm (1 in.) below park ramp (Figure 5).

2. Remove pivot prevention pin from wiper arm.

3. Nut; 22 N.m (16 lb. ft.).

4. Run wiper system and check for correct wipe pattern. L.H. blade tip should wipe to a limit of 28-35 mm (1-1.5 in.) from outside edge of glass. R.H. blade should overlap into L.H. wipe pattern as shown (Figure 4).

5. Washer hose (Figure 1).

6. Protective cap (Figure 1).

WIPER BLADE REPLACEMENT

Remove or Disconnect

1. Place wiper arm at the mid-wipe position.

2. Depress pivot spring with a small screwdriver.

3. Wiper blade.

Install or Connect

1. Wiper blade onto wiper arm.

2. Park wipers.

WIPER BLADE INSERT REPLACEMENT

Remove or Disconnect

1. Place wiper arm at the mid-wipe position.

2. Insert small coin between edge of superstructure and blade insert beside keeper hook. Press slowly until blade insert clears one side of keeper hook. (View A, Figure 6)

3. Blade insert from keeper hooks.

Install or Connect

1. Remove snap-loc tip from new blade insert (View B, Figure 6).

2. Blade insert into keeper hooks, starting with second set from either end (View C, Figure 6).

3. Engage blade insert into one side of remaining hooks and, with rocking motion, push blade insert upward until it snaps into place (View D, Figure 6).

Important

Be sure blade insert is secure in all keeper hooks and that insert moves freely back and forth in hooks.

4. Park wiper arms.

A correctly operating windshield wiper-washer system has a spray pattern that cleans 75% of the wipe pattern (Figure 4) within ten wiper cycles.

If the nozzles (Figure 6) become plugged, apply air pressure. If nozzle remains plugged, the nozzle must be replaced.
