LOOSE QUARTER TRIM PANEL ASSY. (INSTALL RETAINER ASSY.)

Subject: QUARTER TRIM PANEL ASSEMBLIES LOOST AT REAR SHELF PANEL

Model and Year: 1991 BERETTA ONLY

Condition:

---------- Owners of some 1991 Beretta models may comment on a rattling noise coming from the quarter trim panel assemblies in the area of the rear shelf panel.

Cause:

------ The left and right quarter trim panels and quarter inner panels may each be missing a fastener that would otherwise retain the loose portion of the trim panel to the body. Without these fasteners, vibration causes the trim panel to come in contact with the quarter inner panel and create a rattling noise.

Correction:

----------- Install Retainer Assembly, Quarter Inner Trim Finish Panel (GM Part 22576733) to quarter inner panels and/or Velcro Patch (GM Part 12517965) to quarter trim panels using the following procedure:

1.Remove rear seat cushion and seatback using procedure in Service Manual.

2. Remove LH and RH quarter trim panels using procedure in Service Manual.

3. If vehicle is not already equipped, install retainer assembly (GM Part 22576733) into hole on LH and RH quarter inner panels as shown in Figure 1.

4. If necessary, peel protective backing from Velcro Patch (GM Part 12517965) and apply to each quarter trim panel in area shown in Figure 1.

5. Install LH and RH quarter trim panels using procedure in Service Manual. Press edge of each quarter trim panel at rear shelf panel against quarter inner panel to engage the two fasteners.

6. Install rear seat cushion and seatback using procedure in Service Manual.

Parts are expected to be available on February 3, 1992. In case of limited inventory, parts will be placed on 400 Control to waive VIP surcharges. Only verifiable emergency VIP orders will be accepted. SPO will make every effort to obtain parts. However, the part will be shipped premium transportation at dealer's expense and all other order types will be placed on backorder until the 400 control is removed.
