WIND NOISE/WHISTLE NEAR WINDSHIELD (RE-SEAL OPENING)

Subject: WIND NOISE WHISTLE FROM FRONT OF VEHICLE NEAR WINDSHIELD

Model and Year: 1991 CORSICA

Condition:

---------- Owners of some 1991 L Coupe and Sedan models may comment on a wind noise (whistle) coming from the front of the vehicle near the windshield under normal driving conditions.

Cause:

------ During assembly of the shroud upper panel to the dash panel, some welds were mislocated and sealer applied incorrectly. This created a narrow opening between the two panels on the left hand (driver's) side allowing air to pass through and create the wind noise (whistle).

Correction:

----------- Seal opening between shroud upper panel and dash panel using the following procedure:

1.Remove the left (driver's side) shroud top vent screen using the procedure in the Service Manual.

2. Seal the area where the shroud upper panel and dash panel come together using 3M strip calk #08578. Amount of material used not to exceed six strips. Refer to Figure 1 to identify the exact location of the area to be sealed.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
