CENTER MOUNT STOP LAMP RATTLE (REPLACE MOUNTING SCREWS)

SUBJECT: CENTRE HIGH MOUNTED STOP LAMP CONTACTS REAR WINDOW (REPLACE MOUNTING SCREWS WITH NEW ONES)

VEHICLES AFFECTED: 1991 BERETTA "L" CAR

Condition:

----------- Owners of some 1991 Beretta models may comment on a rattling noise coming from the Centre High Mounted Stop Lamps (CHMSL) when experiencing rough road conditions.

Cause:

------- The CHMSL loosens from the support because the current CHMSL mounting screws cannot be tightened enough to provide the proper clamping load without stripping. The rattling noise is caused by a vibration that originates from the rear wheels and is transmitted to the rear shelf panel. This vibration causes the loose CHMSL to contact the rear window and create the noise.

Correction:

------------ Replace current CHMSL 4.2mm mounting screws with new 4.8mm screws, P/N 11505446. Position CHMSL fully forward on the support before inserting and tightening new mounting screws. Tighten screws securely without stripping.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
