Some owners of 1992 "L" cars, with the 3.1L (VIN CODE T/RPO LHO) engine option, may comment that the car exhibits one of more of the following conditions: - will not start - surges at times - stalls when placed in gear - has "Service Engine Soon" light on - temperature gauge at cluster inoperative.
The engine harness has four wires which are not covered by conduit from a single breakout on the passenger side of the dash, near the MAP bracket (see attached figure). Wire chaffing may occur, possibly causing some of the conditions listed above.
Repair chaffed wiring and cover the following leads with conduit, closing the ends of the conduit with tape to prevent the conduit from falling off. Tape the one end of the conduit to the breakout to prevent conduit "floating." This applies to the engine harness only.
The following leads are involved: 1. Injector connector lead. 2. MAP Sensor connector lead. 3. Water temperature sensor lead.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
