Exhaust Manifold Replacement Left Side
Removal Procedure
- Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to
Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing
any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to
the vehicle or its components.
in General Information.
- Remove the top half of the air cleaner assembly. Remove the throttle
body duct.
- Partially drain the cooling system. Refer to Draining, Flushing
and Filling the Cooling System in Cooling and Radiator.
- Remove the radiator hose from the thermostat housing.
- Remove the coolant by-pass pipe at the coolant pump and from the
exhaust manifold. Refer to Cooling and Radiator.

manifold.
Installation Procedure
- Install the exhaust manifold gasket.
- Install the exhaust manifold.
- Install the exhaust manifold nuts.
Tighten
Tighten the exhaust manifold nuts to 16 N·m (12 lb ft).
Refer to
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
in General Information.
- Install the exhaust manifold heat shield.
- Install the exhaust manifold heat shield nuts.
Tighten
Tighten the exhaust manifold heat shield nuts to 10 N·m
(89 lb in).
- Install the exhaust crossover pipe to
the manifold.
- Install the exhaust crossover pipe heat
shield.
- Connect the secondary ignition
wires to the spark plugs.
- Install the coolant by-pass pipe to the coolant pump and exhaust
manifold. Refer to Cooling and Radiator.
- Install the radiator hose to the coolant outlet housing.
- Install the top half of the air cleaner assembly. Install the
throttle body duct.
- Connect the negative battery cable.
