Removal Procedure

Tools Required

J 24420-B Crankshaft Pulley Hub Puller.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to

    Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  2. Remove the drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement .
  3. Raise the vehicle. Refer to SECTION 0A.
  4. Remove the right front wheel and tire assembly. Refer to SECTION 3E.
  5. Remove the engine splash shield. Refer to SECTION 10-4.

  7. Remove the crankshaft pulley bolts.

  8. Object Number: 3446  Size: SH
  9. Remove the crankshaft pulley hub bolt.
  10. Remove the crankshaft pulley.

  11. Object Number: 3454  Size: SH
  12. Remove the crankshaft pulley hub using J 24420-B .

Installation Procedure

Tools Required

J 29113 Crankshaft Pulley Hub Installer.


    Object Number: 3450  Size: SH
  1. Coat the front cover seal contact area with engine oil.
  2. Apply RTV sealer GM P/N 1052917 or equivalents to the keyway in the crankshaft.

  3. Object Number: 3453  Size: SH
  4. Install the crankshaft pulley hub using J 29113 .

  5. Object Number: 3445  Size: SH
  6. Install the crankshaft pulley and bolts.
  7. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  8. Install the crankshaft pulley hub bolt.
  9. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 105 N·m (77 lb ft).

  10. Install the engine splash shield. Refer to SECTION 10-4.
  11. Install the right front wheel and tire assembly. Refer to SECTION 3E.
  12. Lower the vehicle.
  13. Install the drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement .
  14. Connect the negative battery cable.
