SOME OWNERS MAY COMMENT ON THE ABS INDICATOR LAMP ON. MALFUNCTION DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE(S) (DTC'S) 23 AND/OR 24 ON 1995 MODELS AND 34 AND/OR 35 ON 1996 MODELS COULD SET.
THE REAR ABS HARNESS CAN BE DAMAGED AND RESULT IN AN OPEN CIRCUIT OR SHORT TO GROUND. THIS CONDITION WILL RESULT IN TURNING THE ABS INDICATOR LAMP "ON".
THE WIRING HARNESS CLIP IS INSTALLED FROM THE TOP-DOWN (SEE FIGURE 1, ITEM 1). THIS ALLOWS THE PARKING BRAKE CABLE TO REST ON THE ABS HARNESS RESULTING IN HARNESS CONTACT TO THE REAR AXLE. THIS CONTACT COULD LEAD TO HARNESS ABRASION AND ULTIMATELY AN OPEN ELECTRICAL CIRCUIT OR A SHORT TO GROUND.
TO CORRECT THE ABOVE CONDITION, REPLACE THE REAR ABS HARNESS AND INSTALL RETAINING CLIP FROM BOTTOM-UP (SEE FIGURE 1, ITEM 2). DO NOT ATTEMPT TO REPAIR THE DAMAGED HARNESS. (FIGURE 1 SUPERSEDES HARNESS ROUTING DEPICTED IN THE SERVICE MANUAL - 1995, PAGE 5E1-208, AND 1996, PAGE 5E1-203).
