PRODUCT CAMPAIGN 94-C-60 - REAR LEAF SPRING BREAKAGE 1994 CHEVROLET S-10 LLV POSTAL VEHICLES
GENERAL MOTORS HAS DETERMINED THAT CERTAIN 1994 CHEVROLET S-10 LLV MODEL TRUCKS (MODEL S10507) MAY BE EQUIPPED WITH REAR LEAF SPRINGS THAT MAY BREAK AT THE 3RD LEAF. A BROKEN 3RD LEAF WOULD LIKELY OCCUR AS THE VEHICLE WAS BEING LOADED AND WOULD CAUSE A SLIGHT SAG ON THAT SIDE OF THE VEHICLE.
TO CORRECT THIS CONDITION, BOTH REAR SPRINGS WILL BE REPLACED.
VEHICLES INVOLVED
ATTACHED TO THIS BULLETIN IS A LIST OF 542 AFFECTED VIN'S. THESE VEHICLES WILL HAVE SPRINGS DATE CODED "I024" OR "H064", SPRINGS WITH THESE DATE CODES SHOULD BE REMOVED AND REPLACED WITH NEW REAR SPRINGS. SPRINGS WITH DATE CODES OTHER THEN I024 OR H064 ARE NOT INVOLVED IN THIS CAMPAIGN.
OWNER NOTIFICATION
THE U.S. POSTAL SERVICE WILL BE NOTIFIED OF THIS CAMPAIGN ON THEIR VEHICLES BY CHEVROLET MOTOR DIVISION (SEE COPY OF OWNER LETTER INCLUDED WITH THIS BULLETIN).
PARTS INFORMATION
PARTS REQUIRED TO COMPLETE THIS CAMPAIGN ARE TO BE OBTAINED FROM GENERAL MOTORS SERVICE PARTS OPERATIONS(GMSPO). TO ENSURE THESE PARTS WILL BE OBTAINED AS SOON AS POSSIBLE, THEY SHOULD BE ORDERED FROM GMSPO ON A "C.I.O." BASIS.

15568339 SPRING - REAR LEAF 2 SERVICE PROCEDURE:
1. RAISE VEHICLE ON A FRAME CONTACT HOIST.
2. SUPPORT REAR AXLE TO RELIEVE TENSION ON REAR SPRINGS.
3. REMOVE SHOCK ABSORBER ATTACHMENT TO AXLE.
4. REMOVE U-BOLT ATTACHMENT TO AXLE.
5. REMOVE BOTH FRONT AND REAR SPRING BUSHING BOLT AND CAREFULLY REMOVE SPRING ASSEMBLY.
6. INSTALL REPLACEMENT SPRING REVERSE STEPS 5 THROUGH 1. PROPERLY TORQUE ALL FASTENERS.
* SHOCK ABSORBER LOWER NUT - 64 NM (47 LB. FT.)
* SPRING U-BOLT NUTS - 115 NM (85 LB. FT.)
* REAR SHACKLE TO SPRING NUT - 125 NM (92 LB. FT.)
* FRONT BUSHING NUT - 125 NM (92 LB. FT.)
7. REMOVE AXLE SUPPORT.
8. LOWER VEHICLE.
9. INSTALL CAMPAIGN IDENTIFICATION LABEL AFTER REQUIRED PROCEDURES HAVE BEEN PERFORMED.
CAMPAIGN IDENTIFICATION LABEL
EACH VEHICLE CORRECTED IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE INSTRUCTIONS OUTLINED IN THIS PRODUCT CAMPAIGN BULLETIN WILL REQUIRE A "CAMPAIGN IDENTIFICATION LABEL". EACH LABEL PROVIDES A SPACE TO INCLUDE THE CAMPAIGN NUMBER AND THE FIVE (5) DIGIT DEALER CODE OF THE DEALER PERFORMING THE CAMPAIGN SERVICE. THIS INFORMATION MAY BE INSERTED WITH A TYPEWRITER OR A BALL POINT PEN.
EACH "CAMPAIGN IDENTIFICATION LABEL" IS TO BE LOCATED ON THE RADIATOR CORE SUPPORT IN AN AREA WHICH WILL BE VISIBLE WHEN THE VEHICLE IS BROUGHT IN FOR PERIODIC SERVICING BY THE OWNER. ADDITIONAL "CAMPAIGN IDENTIFICATION LABELS" CAN BE OBTAINED FROM D AC.
APPLY "CAMPAIGN IDENTIFICATION LABEL" ONLY ON A CLEAN, DRY SURFACE.

IT IS THE UNDERSTANDING OF CHEVROLET THAT REPAIRS OF THE INVOLVED VEHICLES WILL BE PERFORMED AT THE U.S. POSTAL OFFICE VEHICLE MAINTENANCE FACILITIES (VMF). INSTRUCTIONS HAVE BEEN SENT TO EACH VMF. LABOR TIME TO COMPLETE REPAIR IS 1.4 HOURS.
