INFORMATION ON BLOWER MOTOR

SUBJECT: INFORMATION ON BLOWER MOTOR AND BLOWER RESISTOR REPLACEMENT

MODELS: 1995 CHEVROLET AND GMC TRUCK S/T UTILITY MODELS

THIS BULLETIN IS BEING RELEASED TO ADDRESS HOW TO GAIN ACCESS TO THE BLOWER MOTOR AND THE BLOWER RESISTOR ON THE 1995 S/T UTILITY MODELS WITH THE EVAPORATOR CORE NOISE INSULATOR COVER.

SERVICE PROCEDURE:

BLOWER MOTOR REPLACEMENT

REMOVE OR DISCONNECT

1. NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE. REFER TO SECTION OA. 2. VCM, IF EQUIPPED. 3. COOLANT RESERVOIR. REFER TO SECTION 6B1. 4. COOLING TUBE. 5. ELECTRICAL CONNECTORS, AS NECESSARY. 6. SCREWS. LOWER SCREW IS ON BOTTOM FRONT OF COVER (FIGURE 1). 7. HARNESS FROM BLOWER MOTOR. 8. USING A RAZOR BLADE OR SHARP UTILITY KNIFE CUT THROUGH COVER ON THE CUT LINE (FIGURE 1).

IMPORTANT: IT IS IMPORTANT TO MAKE THE CUT AS STRAIGHT AND NEAT AS POSSIBLE AS THE ACCESS COVER MUST BE REPLACED AND PART OF THIS REPAIR IS VISIBLE TO THE CUSTOMER. CUT THE COVER AS FAR AS POSSIBLE.

9. STARTING WITH THE UPPER HALF OF THE COVER, TEAR THE REMAINING PART OF THE ACCESS COVER FROM THE REMAINING PORTION (FIGURE 1). 10. LOWER ACCESS COVER USING THE SAME PROCEDURE FOR THE UPPER HALF. 11. BLOWER MOTOR. REFER TO SECTION 1B OF THE 1995 SERVICE MANUAL.

INSTALL OR CONNECT

12. BLOWER MOTOR. REFER TO SECTION 1B OF THE 1995 SERVICE MANUAL. 13. THE UPPER AND LOWER HALVES OF THE ACCESS COVERS TOGETHER USING THE 3 FLANGE CLIPS. 14. USING BLACK DUCT TAPE, PLACE A PIECE OF DUCT TAPE ALONG THE BOTTOM LOWER EDGE OF THE LOWER HALF ONLY. THE TAPE MUST BE THE FULL WIDTH OF THE COVER. 15. ACCESS COVER ONTO THE CASE. 16. SCREWS. 17. ALIGN ALL REMAINING EDGES ALONG THE CUT AND TEAR LINE. 18. SEAL THE CUT LINE AREAS WITH BLACK WEATHER-STRIP ADHESIVE ONLY (DO NOT USE RTV).

IMPORTANT: MAKE THE ADHESIVE BEAD AS STRAIGHT AND NEAT AS POSSIBLE. REMEMBER THE CUSTOMER WILL BE ABLE TO SEE PART OF THIS REPAIR. LET THE ADHESIVE SET FOR 15 MINUTES OR UNTIL IT SKINS OVER.

19. ELECTRICAL CONNECTORS, AS NECESSARY. 20. COOLING TUBE. 21. COOLANT RESERVOIR. REFER TO SECTION 6B1 IN THE 1995 S/T SERVICE MANUAL. 22. VCM, IF EQUIPPED. 23. NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE.

BLOWER RESISTOR REPLACEMENT

REMOVE OR DISCONNECT

1. NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE. REFER TO SECTION 0A. 2. A/C CONTROL RELAY BRACKET WITH THE RELAY AND SET OFF TO THE SIDE. 3. BLOWER RESISTOR HARNESS. 4. CUT THE ACCESS COVER FROM THE CASE. IT IS NECESSARY TO CUT ALL FOUR (4) SIDES TO REMOVE THE FOUR (4) ATTACHING SCREWS. USE A RAZOR BLADE OR SHARP UTILITY KNIFE FOR CUTTING. MAKE THE CUTS STRAIGHT AND CLEAN AS THE ACCESS COVER MUST BE REINSTALLED AND THE REPAIR IS VISIBLE TO THE CUSTOMER (FIGURE 2). 5. BLOWER RESISTOR. USING PROCEDURES IN SECTION 1B OF THE 1995 S/T SERVICE MANUAL.

INSTALL OR CONNECT

6. BLOWER RESISTOR. 7. APPLY A BEAD OF BLACK WEATHER-STRIP ADHESIVE OVER THE ENTIRE CUT LINE AREAS (DO NOT USE RTV). 8. LET ADHESIVE SET FOR 15 MINUTES OR UNTIL IT SKINS OVER. 9. RESISTOR HARNESS. 10. A/C RELAY BRACKET TO BODY.

PLEASE UPDATE SECTION 1A, HEATER AND VENTILATION, OF YOUR SERVICE MANUAL AS APPROPRIATE.
