  1. Remove the coolant pump.
  2. Remove the thermostat housing.

  3. Object Number: 1972  Size: SH
  4. Remove the oil fill tube. Refer to Oil Level Indicator and Tube Removal.

  5. Object Number: 1979  Size: SH
  6. Remove the oxygen sensor.
  7. Remove the exhaust manifold. Refer to Exhaust Manifold Removal.
  8. Remove the upper and lower intake manifold. Refer to Intake Manifold Removal.
  9. Remove the rocker arm cover. Refer to Valve Rocker Arm Cover Removal.
  10. Remove the rocker arms and remove the pushrods. Refer to Valve Rocker Arm and Pushrod Removal.

  11. Object Number: 1974  Size: SH
  12. Remove the engine lift bracket from the rear of the engine.

  13. Object Number: 1975  Size: SH
  14. Remove the cylinder head bolts.

  15. Object Number: 1976  Size: SH
  16. Remove the cylinder head stud-ended bolt.
  17. Remove the cylinder head.

  18. Object Number: 9359  Size: SH
  19. Clean the following areas:
  20. • Clean any carbon deposits from the combustion chambers.
    • Clean all traces of the old cylinder head gasket from the cylinder head and from the engine block.

       Important: Do not use abrasive pads to clean the cylinder head or block surfaces. An abrasive pad will damage the cylinder head and block surfaces. Abrasive pads also produce a fine grit that will contaminate the engine oil.

    It is only necessary to remove the gasket material. Do not attempt to remove all marks from the cylinder head gasket surfaces.

    • Clean the cylinder head bolt threads.
    • Clean the threads that are in the engine block.
  21. Inspect the engine block to cylinder head mating surface for the following conditions:
  22. • Nicks
    • Heavy scratches
    • Any other damage
