Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the battery. Refer to Battery Replacement in Engine Electrical.
  2. Raise the vehicle. Refer to

    Notice: When jacking or lifting a vehicle, do not allow the lift pads to contact any of the following parts:

       • The catalytic converter
       • The brake lines
       • The brake cables
       • The fuel lines
       • The accelerator cables
       • The transmission shift cables
    Lift pad contact may damage the parts. Lift pad contact may cause unsatisfactory vehicle performance.

  3. Disconnect the oxygen sensor. Refer to Oxygen Sensor Replacement .
  4. Disconnect the exhaust pipe from the exhaust manifold. Refer to Exhaust.
  5. Disconnect the braces from the engine and the transmission.
  6. Remove the transmission.
  7. • For vehicles equipped with manual transmissions, refer to Section 6.
    • For vehicles equipped with automatic transmissions, refer to Transmission Replacement in Automatic Transmission.
  8. Lower the vehicle.
  9. Disconnect the ground straps from the engine block. Refer to Engine Electrical.
  10. Remove the water pump. Refer to Water Pump Replacement in Engine Cooling.
  11. Remove the air conditioning compressor and bracket. Refer to Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning.
  12. Remove the radiator. Refer to Radiator Replacement in Engine Cooling.
  13. Disconnect the power steering lines at the power steering pump. Refer to Power Steering Gear and Pump.
  14. Disconnect the heater hose from the intake manifold. Refer to Heater and Ventilation.
  15. Disconnect the wiring harness from the engine. Refer to Engine Electrical.
  16. Disconnect the vacuum hoses.
  17. Disconnect the throttle cable.
  18. Disconnect the cruise control cable assembly if the vehicle is equipped with cruise control.
  19. Disconnect the fuel pipes.
  20. Install the engine lifting device to the engine lift brackets.

  22. Remove the left side engine mount through-bolt.

  23. Object Number: 3440  Size: SH
  24. Remove the right side engine mount through-bolt.
  25. Remove the engine from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the engine into the vehicle.

  2. Object Number: 2491  Size: SH
  3. Install the left side engine mount through-bolts. Refer to Engine Mount Replacement .

  4. Object Number: 3440  Size: SH
  5. Install the right side engine mount through-bolts. Refer to Engine Mount Replacement .
  6. Disconnect the engine lifting device.
  7. Connect the fuel pipes. Refer to Fuel Hose and Pipes .
  8. Connect the throttle linkage. Refer to Accelerator Controls .
  9. Connect the cruise control cable assembly if the vehicle is equipped with cruise control.
  10. Connect the vacuum hoses.
  11. Connect the wiring harness to the engine. Refer to Engine Electrical.
  12. Connect the heater hose to the intake manifold. Refer to Heater and Ventiliation.
  13. Connect the power steering lines to the power steering pump. Refer to Power Steering Gear and Pump.
  14. Install the radiator. Refer to Radiator Replacement in Engine Cooling.
  15. Install the air conditioning compressor. Refer to Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning.
  16. Install the water pump. Refer to Water Pump Replacement in Engine Cooling.
  17. Raise the vehicle.
  18. Install the transmission.
  19. • For vehicles equipped with manual transmissions, refer to Transmission Replacement in Manual Transmission.
    • For vehicles equipped with automatic transmissions, refer to Transmission Replacement in Automatic Transmission.
  20. Connect the ground strap to the engine block. Refer to Engine Electrical.
  21. Install the transmission inspection cover.
  22. Connect the braces to the engine and the transmission.
  23. Connect the exhaust pipe to the exhaust manifold. Refer to Exhaust.
  24. Install the oxygen sensor. Refer to Oxygen Sensor Replacement .
  25. Lower the vehicle.
  26. Install the battery. Refer to Battery Replacement in Engine Electrical.
