For 1990-2009 cars only
Dissasembly Procedure
- Remove the shaft and retainer.
- Remove the cover bolts.
- Remove the pump cover.
- Remove the drive gear and the driven gear. Matchmark the gear teeth for assembly.
- Remove the following items:
| • | The oil pump screen has a press fit in to the pump cover. |
| • | Do not remove the pickup tube from the cover unless it is loose or broken. The oil pump is serviced as a complete assembly. |
| • | The retaining pin |
| • | The pressure regulator spring |
| • | The pressure regulator valve |
Assembly Procedure
- Install the following items:
- Fill the gear cavity with petroleum jelly.
- Install the drive gear and the driven gear into the pump body. Align the matchmarks on the gears. Install the smooth side of the gear toward the pump cover.
- Install the pump cover.
- Install the cover bolts.
- Install the shaft and the retainer.
Important: Replace the pressure relief valve spring when you reuse the oil pump.

Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 10 N·m (89 lb in).
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
