J 5590 Crankshaft Gear Installer


    Object Number: 4897  Size: SH
  1. Install the crankshaft sprocket using J 5590 .
  2. Make sure that the crankshaft sprocket is seated against the crankshaft.

  3. Install the timing chain and install the timing chain tensioner.

  4. Object Number: 30191  Size: SH
  5. Compress the timing chain tensioner spring.
  6. Insert a cotter pin or a nail into the hole in the tensioner to retain the timing chain tensioner shoe.

  7. Object Number: 4900  Size: SH
  8. Install the timing chain tensioner. Do not tighten the timing chain tensioner bolts.

  9. Object Number: 4899  Size: SH
  10. Align the crankshaft timing marks with the tab on the timing chain tensioner.
  11. Align the camshaft timing mark with the tab on the timing chain tensioner.
  12. Install the camshaft sprocket and install the timing chain.
  13. Tighten

        • Tighten the timing chain tensioner bolts to 24 N·m (18 lb ft).
        • Tighten the camshaft sprocket bolt to 130 N·m (96 lb ft).

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  14. Remove the cotter pin or nail from the hole in the timing chain tensioner.
  15. Install the engine front cover.
  16. Tighten
    Tighten the engine front cover bolts to 11 N·m (97 lb in).
