THIS BULLETIN HAS BEEN ISSUED TO UPDATE THE PROCEDURE FOR THE REPLACEMENT OF THE LIFTGATE WINDOW GAS SUPPORTS USED ON 1995 AND 1996 S/T UTILITY VEHICLES. SECTION 10A5 OF THE SERVICE MANUAL CURRENTLY PROVIDES THE CORRECT PROCEDURE FOR TWO-DOOR UTILITIES ONLY, WHICH USE BALL STUDS ON BOTH ENDS OF THE GAS SUPPORT. THE GAS SUPPORT ON FOUR-DOOR UTILITIES USES A PIN TO RETAIN THE UPPER END OF THE SUPPORT TO THE LIFTGATE WINDOW. THE FOLLOWING PROCEDURE COVERS LIFTGATE WINDOW GAS SUPPORT REPLACEMENT FOR FOUR-DOOR UTILITIES.
REMOVAL PROCEDURE
1. OPEN AND SUPPORT LIFTGATE WINDOW. 2. REMOVE RETAINER FROM PIN WHICH ATTACHES UPPER END OF GAS SUPPORT TO THE LIFTGATE WINDOW. 3. SLIDE OUT PIN TO RELEASE UPPER END OF GAS SUPPORT FROM WINDOW. 4. REMOVE LOWER END OF GAS SUPPORT BY CAREFULLY PRYING ON THE RETAINING CLIP TO RELEASE SUPPORT END FROM BALL STUD ON BODY.
INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
1. INSTALL GAS SUPPORT TO BALL STUD ON BODY BY PUSHING LOWER END OF SUPPORT ONTO BALL STUD TO ENGAGE RETAINING CLIP. 2. INSTALL UPPER END OF SUPPORT TO LIFTGATE WINDOW USING PIN. 3. INSTALL A NEW RETAINER ONTO PIN.
