Front Disc Brake Pads Replacement Single Piston Caliper

Removal Procedure

Use GM replacement brake lining material for this vehicle. GM replacement brake parts provide the proper brake balance for stopping distance and for braking control. The intended brake balance for this vehicle can change if GM replacement brake lining materials are not used.

    Important: Do not disconnect the brake hose from the caliper.

  1. Remove the caliper. Refer to Front Brake Caliper Replacement .
  2. Notice: Do not allow the brake components to hang from the flexible brake hoses. Damage to the brake hoses could result.

  3. Suspend the caliper.

  4. Object Number: 140  Size: SH
  5. Remove the inboard lining from the caliper.
  6. Remove the retainer spring from the inboard brake lining.
  7. Remove the outboard lining from the caliper.

Installation Procedure

    Caution: Do not move the vehicle until a firm brake pedal is obtained. Failure to obtain a firm pedal before moving vehicle may result in personal injury.

    Important: Before installing new brake pads, wipe the outside surface of the caliper boot clean. Use denatured alcohol.

  1. Install the outboard lining.

  2. Object Number: 140  Size: SH
  3. Install the retainer spring on the inboard brake lining.
  4. Install inboard lining in the caliper.
  5. Notice: Make sure the brake hose is not twisted or kinked after installation. Damage to the hose could result.

  6. Install the caliper. Refer to Front Brake Caliper Replacement .
  7. Burnish the new brake pads. Refer to Brake Pad and Rotor Burnishing .

Front Disc Brake Pads Replacement Dual Piston Caliper

Removal Procedure

Use GM replacement brake lining material for this vehicle. GM replacement brake parts provide the proper brake balance for stopping distance and for braking control. The intended brake balance for this vehicle can change if GM replacement brake lining materials are not used.

  1. Remove two-thirds of the brake fluid from the master cylinder reservoir.
  2. Important: Do not disconnect the brake hose from the caliper.

  3. Remove the caliper. Refer to Front Brake Caliper Replacement .
  4. Notice: Do not allow the brake components to hang from the flexible brake hoses. Damage to the brake hoses could result.

  5. Suspend the caliper.
  6. Remove the pads from the caliper bracket.

Installation Procedure

    Caution: Do not move the vehicle until a firm brake pedal is obtained. Failure to obtain a firm pedal before moving vehicle may result in personal injury.

  1. Install the pads to the caliper bracket.
  2. Verify that all 4 of the wear sensors are in place.
  3. Notice: Make sure the brake hose is not twisted or kinked after installation. Damage to the hose could result.

  5. Burnish the new brake pads. Refer to Brake Pad and Rotor Burnishing .
