Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the brake shoes. Refer to Brake Shoe Replacement .
  2. Remove the wheel cylinder. Refer to Wheel Cylinder Replacement .
  3. Remove the axle shaft. Refer to Rear Axle Shaft Replacement in Rear Drive Axle.

  4. Object Number: 213  Size: SH
  5. Remove four bolts and washers.
  6. Remove the backing plate.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 213  Size: SH
  1. Install the backing plate.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install four bolts and washers.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the backing plate mounting bolts to 48 N·m (35 lb ft).

  5. Install the axle shaft. Refer to Rear Axle Shaft Replacement in Rear Drive Axle.
  6. Install the wheel cylinder. Refer to Wheel Cylinder Replacement .
  7. Install the brake shoes. Refer to Brake Shoe Replacement .
  8. Bleed the brake system. Refer to Hydraulic Brake System Bleeding in Hydraulic Brakes.
