The tires are under-inflated.

Inflate the tires to the specified pressure.

The lower coupling flange is rubbing against the steering gear adjuster plug.

1. Loosen the pinch bolt.
2. Assemble the pinch bolt properly.

The steering wheel is rubbing against the directional signal housing.

Adjust the steering jacket.

The steering shaft bearings are tight or frozen.

Replace the bearings.

The following components are binding:

Replace the affected components.

The steering gear to the column is misaligned.

Align the steering column.

The tie rod pivots are not centralized.

Adjust the tie rod ends as required in order to center the pivots.

Refer to Fastener Tightening Specifications in Steering Linkage.

The suspension ball joints and the steering linkage lack lubricant.

Lubricate the suspension ball joints and the steering linkage.

The valve spool is stuck or plugged.

1. Remove the valve.
2. Clean or replace the valve.

The front wheel alignment is improper.

Inspect the wheel alignment. Adjust the alignment to specifications.

The steering gear is adjusted too tightly.

Adjust the over-center and the thrust bearing pre-load to specifications.

The return hose is kinked.

Replace the Return hose.

Refer to Power Steering Return Hose Replacement .

The steering intermediate shaft stone shield is side-loaded against the shaft assembly.

Eliminate the side-load.
